This is a report on the translation of “Live Long and Prosper: Aging in East Asia and Pacific”,a research report by the staff of the World Bank with external contributions from other countries. This text discusses the societal and public policy challenges and reform options for the East Asia and Pacific countries as they address aging.According to the text typology advanced and developed by Reiss and New Mark, the translator uses the Text Typology to define the text type on the basis of language function, and then chooses the skpos theory to guide the translation process with the employment of translation techniques such as transliteration plus annotation, conversion, amplification and omission and restructuring. The main contents of this report are divided into four parts: Chapter One is the introduction to the translation project, including project background, objectives, significance, and structure.Chapter Two provides the research background by presenting the theoretical foundation for the translation, the background and a general analysis of the original text.Chapter Three presents translation difficulties and methodologies, specifically, the difficulties, preparations, methodologies for the translation and some illustrations of the corresponding examples.Chapter Four ends the report with some lessons, enlightenments and problems unsolved in the translation report.Hopefully, the translation project would be of value to population aging research and the translation of related texts.
