The Study Of Modal Particles In Xiangyuan Dialect Of Shanxi

The modal particle is an important feature that distinguishes Chinese from Indo-European languages,and each of Chinese dialects has its own independent system of modal particles.Therefore it is very important to study the modal particle of Chinese dialects.The research object of this thesis is modal particles of Xiangyuan dialect.Based on the field investigation,this thesis references Mandarin and other Chinese dialect research achievements as well.Firstly,the modal meanings,grammatical functions and continuous usage and repeated usage of modal pariticles of Xiangyuan dialect are described comprehensively and carefully in this thesis.Then,modal particles of Xianyuan dialect have been compared with modal particles of Mandarin and other surrounding dialects synchronically.Finally,the modal particle system of Xiangyuan dialect has been concluded.This thesis consists of six parts:The first part:Introduction.Firstly,introduces the overview of Xiangyuan county,including the human geography and its dialect.Secondly,introduces the research status of modal particles,including the definition and classification of modal particles;the study of modal particles in Mandarin and in Chinese dialects.Finally,the research objects,methods,stylistic and rules and layout,linguistic datas of the thesis are introduced.The second part:the classification and description of modal particles in Xiangyuan dialect.According to the difference between the form and function of modal particles,the 26 modal particles in Xiangyuan dialect can be divided into four categories:the condition modal particle,the interrogative modal particle,the modality modal particle and the temporary pause modal particle.The condition modal particle includes:La?? ₁??Lai??₁??Le??₁??A?? ₁?;the interrogative modal particle includes:Wa?? ₂??Me?? ₂?;the modality modal particle includes:Lao?? ₂??La??₂??Lai?? ₂??Le?? ₂??A??₂??Wa?? ₁??Me??₁??Ang????Ao????Huai????De????Dele????;the temporary pause modal particle includes:Lao?? ₃??Lai?? ₃??A?? ₃??Wa?? ₃??Me?? ₃??Shi????Le?? ₃?.This part mainly makes a summary of distributional characteristics and modal meanings by analyzing and comparing quantity of linguistic datas.The third part:The continuous usage and repeated usage of modal particles in Xiangyuan dialect.Through analyses of continuous usage and repeated usage of modal particles in Xiangyuan dialect,it is found that there are three types of continuous usage:the collocation of condition modal particles and modality modal particles;the collocation of condition modal particles and interrogative modal particles;the collocation of condition modal particles,interrogative modal particles and modality modal particles.Moreover,there are three types of repeated usage:repeated usage of condition modal particles,repeated usage of modality modal particles,and rapeated usage of temporary pause modal particles.The fourth part:the function of the modal particle of Xiangyuan dialect.In this part,functions of the modal particle of Xiangyuan dialect are explained from the perspective of semantic,structual and textual functions.The fifth part:comparative study on the modal particle of Xiangyuan dialect.In this section,the thesis makes comparions of internal differences of Xiangyuan dialectal modal particle,of differences between modal particles of XiangYuan dialect and Mandarin modal particles,and of differences of modal particles between Xiangyuan dialect and surrounding dialects.The sixth part:Conclusion.Based on descriptions,analyses and comparisons,this part reveals the characteristics of the modal particle of Xiangyuan dialect and sums up the modal particle system of Xiangyuan dialect.
