| The development of globalization increases the demand for bilingual/multilingual interpreters/translators.Compared with western countries,interpreting starts later in China,with lower speed and is lack of code of ethics.Thus,we need to learn interpreting theories and experience from advanced countries;the training for Chinese interpreters is also in urgent.The Routledge Handbook of Interpreting provides us with a comprehensive overview of the research on interpreting from the past to the future.In the book,the author introduces the historical perspectives of interpreting profession,modes of interpreting,interpreting in different settings,and issues and debates of the profession,which are informative and instructive to the development of interpreting in China,and can stimulate reflections as well.Chapter 15,the source text for my project,focuses on the field of healthcare interpreting in countries which have become destinations for migrants and/or refugees,offering plenty of solutions likewise.As medical technologies in China develops and cooperation and exchanges between Chinese healthcare facilities and foreign healthcare facilities deepens,healthcare interpreting may also be a significant part of interpreting field in China.This chapter may point out a future direction of healthcare interpreting.Based on Newmark’s communicative translation,the translator considered the source text as informative text.In line with the feature of informative text,the translation task is faithful to the source text and emphasizes on producing an effect on its readers as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original and effectively transmitting information,avoiding translationese.The translation task is composed of four parts: in Chapter one,the translator briefly introduces the source text,the authors,and the background and the purpose ofthe task;in Chapter two,the translator expounds the process of the task;in Chapter three,the translator elaborates some examples of difficulties in the task and lists solutions and analysis according to Newmark’s communicative translation theory;Chapter four is the conclusion of the task. |
