| Based on the original text and translation of The Future of African Civil Aviation,and assisted by CAT(computer-assisted translation software),this translation practice report focuses on the translation strategies of civil aviation English,and uses of strategies in the translation process.Civil aviation English is a branch of ESP(English for Special Purposes),characterized with many distinctive features like high specialization,abundant terminology,and complex sentence structure.The Future of African Civil Aviation boasts significant characteristics of civil aviation English,so translation strategies that can be applied in translating technical English could be employed.Then translation efficiency and accuracy will be greatly improved with the help of CAT and terminology accumulated in other completed translation projects.By reading the document,writing the review,summarizing the terminology,and installing CAT,dictionaries and a variety of search software,preparations for translation have been made.To successfully complete the translation practice,and based on features of the original text and translation,the Skopos theory is regarded as the reference theory of the report.By listing examples,the report describes the process of translation in detail,involving vocabulary translation,syntactic translation,text translation and translation of civil aviation cultural background.And the report summarizes the translation experience available for reference in the later practice,including translation strategies regarding suffix derived words,compound words,acronyms,nouns and nominalization structures,conditional sentences,passive sentences,formal subject sentences,and complex sentences,and appends the original text and translation aligned in sentences in the appendix.The research materials of aviation English concerning Africa are offered,and some references for translators who are willing to continue studying civil aviation of Africa in the future are provided in this translation practice report. |
