A Report On The Translation Of American Civil Aviation Literature Research

China’s civil aviation industry has developed rapidly,especially in its concepts and equipment.The translation of American civil aviation research reports can promote exchanges between China and America,which is of great practical significance.The translation material,Airport Collaborative Decision Making(ACDM)to Manage Adverse Conditions,is a civil aviation research report published by the National Academy of Sciences in 2021.The text introduces the operation process and the relevant collaborative tools and templates of ACDM.The translation practice translates all chapters of the original text from English to Chinese,which contains about 25,000 words and no translated version has been found so far.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background knowledge and text characteristics of the translated material;The second chapter describes the translation process and the work in three steps,that is pre-,while-and post-translation;In the third chapter,according to the language characteristics of the translated material,typical cases are analyzed from the lexical,syntactic and textual levels to explore appropriate translation methods.The last two chapter summarizes the translation quality assessment as well as the harvest and reflection from this translation practice.This translation practice report summarizes the language features and tailored translation strategies from three aspects.The lexical level mainly reflects technical terms and nominal structure,and literal translation,free translation,conversion and zero translation methods are adopted.The syntactic level includes passive sentences,long and complex sentences,and the translation strategies mainly include literal translation,omission and re-construction.The textual level mainly discusses reference and conjunction,which can apply linear translation and amplification.According to the characteristics of the text,this translation practice report adopts suitable translation methods and strategies flexibly,which is conducive to improving the accuracy and quality of the translation of civil aviation research reports,so as to offer useful reference and help for the future translation of such field.
