The Relationship Between Parenting Style, Social Support And Mental Health Of Poor College Students

Mental health has been widely regarded as an important aspect of the healthy development of the individual.Special groups of poor college students may face more mental health problems.The study has found that family factors have a significant impact on mental health,which mainly focuses on three aspects that are parental factors,family housing conditions and family environment.In the context of the special family background of the poor college students,parenting style which is a representative of the parents,plays an important role in their mental health.At the same time,social support is also an important protective factor for adolescent mental health.It has been found that parental rearing,social support and mental health are related to each other,but the discussion about the relationship of the three is relatively scarce.The relationship of the three mechanisms is not clear,so this study is to examine what the relationship of them is like.This research used the EMBU questionnaire,social support scale and SCL-90 questionnaire survey method,selecting 540 Poor college students in a university in Weifang City.The conclusion is as follows.1.Poor college students boys’ parental serious punishments,excessive interference,fathers’ rejection and excessive protection are significantly higher than those of the girls.The girls’ parental preference level are significantly higher than those of the boys.2.The subjective support of the sophomore year is significantly higher than that of the first years’ poor college students.3.Poor college students girls’ somatization,compulsion,interpersonal relationship,despondent,anxious,terror,psychoticism are significantly higher than those of the boys.4.In the relationship among parenting style,social support,and mental health,parenting style is significantly related with social support and mental health.Parental serious punishment,excessive interference,preference and parental rejection show significantly negative correlation with mental health.Parental emotional warmth has significantly positive correlation with mental health.Parental emotional warmth has significantly positive correlation with social support.Their fathers’ rejection,mothers’ over serious punishments,mothers’ over interference and preference have significantly negative correlation with social support.Dimensions of social support are significantly positive correlated with mental health.5.Social support has a partial mediation effect on the relationship between fathers’ emotional warmth and mental health.Social support have a partial mediation effect on the relationship between mothers’ emotional warmth and mental health.
