Closed-cell aluminum foams possess the light-weight,high specific strength and stiffness and high energy absorption properties,which are required by structural materials.Meanwhile,they also possess the sound insulation and electromagnetic shielding characteristics,which can satisfy the requirement of functional materials.Due to the above mentioned characteristics closed-cell aluminum foams have been extensively used in high-speed railway,automobile and aerospace fields.The prepare technology and mechanical properties of commercially pure closed-cell aluminum foams have been widely investigated.While,the recycle technology,speciously for the properties and application feasibility of the recycled aluminum,have seldom been studied.In this paper,flux covering method was applied to recycle commercially pure closed-cell aluminum foams and optimal proportion of the flux was obtained.Meanwhile the relationship and mechanism between the percentage of the flux and the recovery rate were investigated.In addition,effect of the percentage of the flux on the mechanical properties of the recycled aluminum was studied and spectrum analysis,microstructure observation,XRD was used to analyze the variation of the performance.Using the mechanical properties of commercial aluminum for comparison,the application feasibility of recycled aluminum was evaluated.In addition,foaming behavior of the recycled aluminum and compression performance of the recycled aluminum foams were studied.The results showed that recovery rate of the foams increased first and then decreased gradually with the flux percentage increasing.The max recovery rate which was about of 80% can be obtained with flux percentage of 30%.Compared with commercial aluminum,the tensile strength and yield strength of recycled aluminum increased about 100% and 70%,respectively.However,the flux percentage has no obvious influence on the mechanical performance of the recycled aluminum.On the whole,though the recycled aluminum has similar compression deformation behavior with commercial aluminum,they possessed slightly higher yield strength and compression strength.And their bending strength,impact Brinell Hardness increased more than 100%,50% and 50%,respectively,which due to the refined crystalline strengthening and dispersion strengthening of Al-Ti phases.Both of the pore structures of commercial aluminum foams and the recycled aluminum foams are homogeneous.While,the yield strength of the recycled aluminum foams are about 80% higher than commercial aluminum foams.Based on the above mentioned description,flux covering method is an outstanding approach for commercial aluminum foam recycling.Additionally,recycled aluminum possess bright application prospect due to its excellent comprehensive performances.
