ObjectiveTo investigate the level and influencing factors of rumination in nursing students suffered from needle stick injuries, for the sake of understanding the level of their cognitive processing after accidental needle injuries, and providing an effective measurement tool for the implementation of cognitive intervention.MethodsThe convenience sampling method was used to select 330 nursing students suffered from needle stick injuries from July 2015 to March 2017,which worked in 5 different grade III class-A hospitals in Shandong province.By using a self-designed questionnaire and Chinese version of the event-related rumination questionnaire(C-ERRI),we investigated the possible correlation between rumination level after accidental needle injuries and the above factors in nursing students.SPSS 17.0 statistical software package was used for data processing and analysis. The measurement data was expressed by mean standard deviation(x±s),and T test was used between the two groups.Variance analysis was used among multiple groups, and rumination was analyzed by multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. With P<0.05,the difference was statistically significant.Results1.In this study, after accidental needle injuries, the total rumination score was(15.64±5.36),and the score of invasive rumination and purposive rumination was(]4.79±5.60)and(16.13+5.07)respectively.By comparing the scores of each item, the results showed that the scores of purposive rumination after needle injuries were higher than those of invasive rumination(t=-4.672,P=0.000).This prompted that clinical pra-ctice nurses began to think ahout the effect of needle-stick injuries on themselves and started exploring the protective measures of needle-stick injuries.2.T test and analysis of variance between two independent samples showed that the scores of the invasive rumination and purposive rumination after the accidental needle injury in nursing students were statistically significant compared to 4 variables in this survey:educational level, family economic status, the time of needle injury, and the number of times of injuries. The higher the education level was,the lower scores of invasive rumination and the higher score of purposive rumination were observed in nursing students. The lower the family economic status was,the higer scores of invasive rumination and the lower score of purposive rumination were observed. The longer the needle injury time was,the lower scores of invasive rumination and the higher score of purposive rumination were observed.,And the nursing students got higher scores of invasive rumination and purposive rumination if the number of needle injuries occured more frequently.3.The results of multiple regression analysis showed that family economic status and educational level were the main risk factors of invasive rumination.,and 14.8%of its total variation could be explained.Educational level, family economic status, the time of needle injury, and the number of times of injuries were the main factors affecting the purposive rumination, and 21.9%of its total variation could be explained. Conclusion 1.At present,in the nursing students in Shandong province, after needle injuries the level of purposive rumination is higher than that of invasive rumination.2.The main influencing factors of the level of invasive rumination in nursing students after needle injuries in Shandong province are family economic status and educational level.3.Educational level, family economic status, the time of needle injury, and the number of times of injuries were the main factors affecting the purposive rumination in nursing students after needle injuries in Shandong.
