Translation Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Tianjin University News

With further expanded exchanges between global cultures,high-level universities in China start to consider their development from an international perspective.As a window for the outside world to know universities in China,official websites in English of domestic universities play an important role in their exchanges with foreign universities.Normally,news on English official websites of universities is translated from Chinese news.Chinese-to-English news translation have direct influence on cross-culture exchanges,and can even affect the image and reputation of universities.Therefore,translation is of great importance in English news production of universities.This report is based on news on the official website of Tianjin University translated by the author,whose content includes construction of institutes,academic exchanges,remarkable achievements,and so on.Keeping Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory in mind,the author analyzes C-E translation of Tianjin University News from the level of words and sentences.Through this,the author explores the embodiment of Cultural Translation Theory and its guiding role in choosing proper translating strategies and methods when cultural elements are involved.This report contains four chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction of the translation task to illustrate the features and background of the translation of Tianjin University News.The second chapter describes the process,including pre-translation preparations,translation,and proofreading.The third chapter,after introducing its origin and development,analyzes the embodiment and application of Cultural Translation Theory in examples from the perspective of words and sentences.The fourth chapter summaries the experience from this translation practice.This translation practice report tries to combine Bassnett’s Cultural Translation Theory with Tianjin University C-E news translation in a more sufficient way,to find out specific strategies and methods in terms of examples under the guidance of the theory,and to accumulate experience for future relevant translation practices and studies.
