This report is based on the author's experience of interpreting for the National Governance Forum---Peking University Foreign Experts Lecture on June 1st,2017.The author and his partner served as simultaneous interpreters for the lecturer,Professor David Sandalow from Columbia University who gave a speech entitled US Energy Sector---Current Trends to all the participants.Effort Model of Simultaneous Interpretation(SI)defined that the effort an interpreter need to distribute mainly falls into four categories:listening and analysis effort, memory effort, production effort and coordination effort. In order to successfully fulfill multiple tasks during SI and deliver a good performance, simultaneous interpreters are required to properly distribute and coordinate time and effort so as to meet processing capacity requirements. This report, adopting Effort Model as its theoretical framework, conducts case analysis from the author's personal experience, puts forward some interpreting strategies applied by the author for the purpose of balancing his effort in the process of SI,and expresses the author's reflections on fulfilling this interpreting task. The author hopes that the report can help more interpreters become aware of the importance to balance their effort distribution in SI,and he also shares some applicable strategies for future interpreters to achieve good performance and produce high-quality language output in SI tasks.
