A Study Of Causes And Coping Strategies For Imbalanced Effort Distribution In EST Simultaneous Interpretation

With the development of technology and the improvement of people’s consumption level,more and more technological products have gradually become part of our life,and they have brought about great changes in our daily life.The technological product launch event has become an important platform for high-tech companies to promote their new products,which also provides favorable conditions for the development of EST simultaneous interpreting.Under this circumstance,the study of EST simultaneous interpretation not only enrich the relevant academic studies but also conform to the realistic need.With the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model,the author of this thesis analyzes the simultaneous interpretation of Apple’s 2019 September launch event.The corpus of the thesis comes from Sina Video.The author transcribe the video sentence by sentence in order to fully restore the simultaneous interpreting at Apple’s 2019 September launch event.which is corrected sentence by sentence in combination with video resources in order to maximize the restoration of simultaneous interpretation at launch event.According to the corpus,the author analyzes the causes of imbalanced effort distribution,in the perspectives of the interpreter and non-interpreter factors.Based on the different model tasks,this thesis put forward some corresponding strategies.In the task of listening and analysis model,background knowledge,logical inference and anticipation are helpful to release the stress of interpreters;In the task of short-term memory model,multimedia presentation and syntactic linearity can help interpreters to memorize effectively;In the task of production and coordination model,omitting and paraphrase can help interpreters to interpret fluently.Through the study of Gile’s Effort Model and the analysis of the corpus ofApple’s 2019 September launch event,the author observes that Gile’s Effort Model is of guiding significance to the EST simultaneous interpretation.Interpreters should analyze the cause of imbalanced effort distribution and allocate the task of listening and analysis model,short-term memory model and production and coordination model appropriately to improve their interpreting level and effectiveness of simultaneous interpretation.
