As far back as 2012,China's ministry of education has made clear a number of opinions on the construction of education teaching materials in the 12th five-year plan, which is to establish the principle of national, provincial and school-level construction.Vocational colleges and universities are required to develop supplementary textbooks that reflect their own professional characteristics. However,in the lack of qualified teachers and limited rural vocational schools,it is not easy to have the ability to develop the school-based textbooks and to achieve success. Is it meaningful to develop school-based teaching materials in rural vocational schools? Is the school-based teaching materials helpful to students? What is the development process of school-based teaching materials? What are the important principles in it?In order to solve the above problems, the author took Taoyuan Vocational School as the research object, and explored the three stages of the development of the process of school-based teaching materials in it.The first stage:the germination of English school-based teaching materials(2003-2009).In this period, there was not enough emphasis on listening and vocabulary in the textbook, which exactly are the shortcomings of our students. To make up for this, the school compiled the weekly word memory cards, and set up extra listening course in order to improve the students' vocabulary and listening level. At the same time, there were fewer supplementary teaching materials about secondary vocational education on the market,so teachers had to compile teaching materials by themselves from time to time. This lays the foundation for the later development of the school-based teaching materials, which also explains the requirements of teachers and students. The second stage:the formation of English school-based teaching materials(2009-2012).In order to help students adapt to the vocational school English study, the school had prepared a set of school-based textbooks for students of grade one and two, which was also the first set of school-based textbooks in Taoyuan Vocational School. This school-based textbook was written in accordance with six principles, which were, simple, basic, systematic, applicable, practical and timeliness. It begins with letters and phonetics, giving the underachievers a chance to learn English from scratch, which was praised by teachers and students. Its weak point is the lack of experience in compiling school-based teaching materials. On the other hand, the school found that attempts to replace textbook completely with school-based textbook proved infeasible.School-based teaching materials should work as complementary to textbooks. The third stage:the maturity of the English textbooks(since2012).In the long exploration of school-based teaching material development,English teachers in Taoyuan Vocational School has experienced many setbacks. After 2012,the compilation mode of the school-based textbook, especially the grammar book of senior three, finally matured.Based on the preparation of college entrance examination, considered the actual situation of teaching, the English teachers of senior three will compile the grammar book for the next year's.,which has made the school achieved excellent results in college entrance examination. The author thinks that the development of school-based teaching material in rural vocational school must follow three important principles:supplemental, applicability and timeliness.Study the textbook first, making sure it works as the supplementary teaching materials to the textbook.Second, analyze the needs of students, ensuring the school-based teaching material' applying to the students. At last, make the necessary changes according to actual situation.
