Comparative Study Between Baixing Dialect And Ya Dialect

Baixing dialect and Ya dialect are mainly used along the upstream and downstream areas of Liu River.In this thesis,I made a comprehensive observation and comparison between these two dialects based on the results of my field study.Phonetically,compared with Cantonese,Guinan Ping dialect,Guibei Ping dialect and other Ping dialects in Rongliu area,Rongliu Ping dialect system,including Baixing dialect,Ya dialect does have a weaker consistency: Baixing dialect and Guibei Ping dialect predominates respectively are close to each other,so these two dialects share a few common characteristics;so are Ya dialect and Guinan Ping dialect.However,in general,phonetics in Rongliu Ping dialect system is consistent.To be more specific,from comparison,we can see that phonetics in Guibei Ping dialect,Rongliu Ping dialect and Guinan Ping dialect is consistent in some respects.Phonetics of these dialects evolved towards the same direction as that of Cantonese did,and hence i suggest that Guangxi Ping dialect and Cantonese be classified in the same dialect group.In terms of vocabulary,there exist a great number of loanwords from the Tai-Kadai language in Baixing dialect and Ya dialect.Meanwhile,these two dialects also have similar rules of vocabulary construction and word creation.With regards to grammar,Baixing dialect and Ya dialect are similar on the whole but slightly differ.This thesis is divided into six parts,including Introduction,Phonetic Comparison between Baixing Dialect and Ya Dialect,Vocabulary Comparison between Baixing Dialect and Ya Dialect,Syntax Comparison between Baixing Dialect and Ya Dialect,Conclusion and Appendix.The first part Introduction mainly demonstrates past research on Cantonese and Ping dialects as well as controversy on the relationship between Cantonese and Guangxi Ping dialects.The second part,Phonetic Comparison between Baixing Dialect and Ya Dialect,incorporates a comprehensive phonetic description of these two dialects and a comparison between them in the whole Guangxi Ping dialect system and even in the Cantonese system,from which we can see not only the internal consistency in Rongliu Ping dialect system to which Baixing dialect and Ya dialect belong,but also the consistency between Ping dialect and Cantonese.What's more,phonetics in Ping dialect and Cantonese evolved towards the same direction.The third part,Vocabulary Comparison between Baixing Dialect and Ya Dialect mainly compares origins of vocabulary,vocabulary construction,rules of word creation and semantics between these two dialects.The fourth part,Syntax Comparison between Baixing Dialect and Ya Dialect,mainly focuses on pronouns,adverbs,prepositions,conjunctions,auxiliary words,comparative sentences,passive sentences and alternative questions.The fifth part,Conclusion,is a summary of the findings above and further analyzes the relationship between Ping dialect and Cantonese in terms of phonetics.The sixth part,Appendix,consists of charts of homophones,charts of word classification and syntax examples.
