Study On The Phonology Of Yue Dialect In Mandalay,Myanmar

Yue dialect in Mandalay is the Yue dialect of overseas Chinese spoken in Mandalay Myanmar.The ancestral home of these overseas Chinese is Guanghai Taishan,this overseas Chinese dialect originates Taishan Yue dialect.Based on a investigation of the Taishan dialect of Mandalay and the Taishan dialect,this article briefly introduces the status of the Chinese community in Mandalay,Myanmar and the status of the Taishan dialect in Mandalay,then it describes the phonology of the Taishan dialect of Mandalay and the Taishan dialect of Guanghai from the perspectives of initials,vowels and tones,and summarizes the similarities and differences between the two.This article makes a special comparative study on the prominent features of phonology,such as the evolution of consonant endings,hopes to more comprehensinely and more deeply understand the basic features of the phonology of dialect in Mandalay,Mandalay.The main body of the thesis consists of five chapters.The first chapter is introduction,mainly introduce the general situation of the Chinese in Myanmar and Mandalay,as well as the related research of overseas Chinese dialects.The second chapter,make a phonological description of the Taishan dialect in Mandalay,Myanmar,and comparison with Middle Chinese.The third chapter,A description of the phonology of the Taishan dialect in Guanghai Taishan dialect.The forth chapter,comparing the phonology of the Mandalay Taishan dialect in Myanmar with that of the Guanghai area in Taishan,Guangdong,it summarizes the similarities and differences between the two in terms of initials,vowels,and tone,and a special study on the characteristics of the Taishan dialect in Mandalay.The fifth chapter is the conclusion,summarizes the analysis and comparison of the whole thesis,and points out the innovations and deficiencies.This thesis argues that the phonetic outlines and characteristics displayed by the Taishan dialect in Mandalay,Myanmar,are not only inherited from the ancestry of the maternal dialect of the ancestral homeland,but also influenced by the internal coordination of speech and external language contact.In general,the Taishan dialect of Mandalay in Myanmar and the Taishan dialect of Guanghai are similar in nature and retain the basic characteristics of the phonological system of the ancestral hometown.In addition,the Mandalay Taishan dialect also breeds new features that are not found in local dialects.This is a variation of Mandalay dialects after contact with Burmese,Yunnan dialect,and local Chinese education,which reflects the imbalance of development and change of the same dialect in different living areas and language environments.
