Language is the most important tool for human beings to think and communicate,so English education of senior high school has multiple humanistic and social significance.As a new and unique study method and thinking way,mind map has a wide range of applications in education.How to combine mind map with students’ knowledge level,thinking characteristics and so on has brought many educational researchers’ focus.The mind map uses its unique characteristics to help students brainstorm and connect the new knowledge with the old knowledge.There are many researches about applying the mind map into English teaching,and they have proved the effectiveness of the mind map.However,they just study from one particular aspect and seldom concentrate on the whole instructional design,for example,in vocabulary teaching,reading teaching,grammar teaching and writing teaching.Hence,the author tries to use the mind map in the instructional design,and puts forward two research questions:(1)Can the mind map applied in the senior high school English instructional design arouse students’ interests?(2)Can the mind map applied in the senior high school English instructional design improve students’ English scores?The author uses pre-test,post-test,questionnaire survey,interview and other ways to test the effectiveness of this teaching mode and concludes that applying the mind map in the instructional design of senior high school English can arouse students’ interests and improve students’ English grades.The thesis provides some implications for teaching.Firstly,teachers should change their roles in teaching.Secondly,when using mind maps,teachers should help students developseveral abilities.Thirdly,teachers should have the ability to develop curriculum resources.Finally,teachers should encourage students to learn to cooperate and develop their ability to communicate with others.
