An English Translation Report On Medical Records Of The 10th China Medical Team In Liberia

The source text of the translation practice is based on the translation of medical records made by 10th China Medical Team in Liberia at JFK hospital.Guided by literature research method,Christiane Nord’s Text Analysis Theory and Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory,translation methods and techniques of Chinese-to-English medical records translation practice in terms of vocabulary,sentence and text are introduced in this report.This paper briefly introduces the background,content,request,purpose and value of this translation text and illustrates the translating process from details of before translation,in translation and after translation.Basing on translation theory,the paper also explains the influence factors to text,analyzes typical examples to demonstrate detailed methods and techniques in medical records translation and summarize experiences finally.Root,affix,abbreviation,vagueness,the extension of meaning,meaning transfer and Liberian English are analyzed in lexical aspect;difficult long sentence,passive sentence and negative sentence are analyzed in sentence aspect;text structure and tense are analyzed in text aspect.The paper summarizes the vocational literacy of translators in English translation of medical records and the experience of translation,and reconsiders the application of translation theory and translation methods.The content of translation project is rich,typical and professional.This project serves for the 10~thh China Medical Team to help Chinese doctors finish their work,local doctors fully understand patients situation,promote doctors’communication and improve friendly cooperation between two countries.This report shows that in the translation of medical records,it is necessary to comprehensively analyze the intratextual and extratextual factors of the source text,and continually modify and confirm relevant information.This cycle can fully reflect the intent and expression of the source text.As the research on medical record translation is less,this paper is considered to offer some reference value to relative researchers in some degree.
