English,as an international language,plays an important role in today's international exchanges.Since the 1990 s,the pace of educational reform in different countries around the world has been accelerating,and various initiatives have been introduced to improve the teaching effect,all of which have changed the students' learning style as an important starting point.Blended learning,originated from the western concept of E-learning,is the product of the rapid development of science and technology,which advocates the integration of face-to-face teaching and online learning,so that these two modes could promote and complement each other.Station Rotation is one of the most popular blended learning models.In the Station Rotation model,students in class rotate through the same stations to learn according to the fixed teaching schedule,just like train timetable contains several stations,and at least one of the stations is online learning.In recent years,to some extent,relevant research on new educational methods and online educational resources has developed,such as Flipped Classroom,MOOC,Microlecture and various video open courses,etc.However,from the related literature reviewed,there has been relatively little research on the application of Station Rotation blended learning model in college English teaching.In view of this,the current study attempts to apply the Station Rotation blended learning model in college English teaching from the perspective of the Constructivist Theory,with designing teaching experiments,and explores the practical application of Station Rotation blended learning model in college English teaching through quantitative and qualitative analysis.The current study aims to help students improve their English learning abilities and optimize the teaching effects.The research questions raised in this thesis are as follows:(1)How is the Station Rotation blended learning model applied in college English teaching?(2)What are the effects of applying the Station Rotation blended learning model in college Englishteaching?(3)What are students' attitudes toward the Station Rotation blended learning model? In order to answer these questions,the author conducts an experiment for one semester.The subjects of the current study are sophomores of two classes in a university in Changchun,Jilin Province,with 34 students in the experimental group and 31 students in the control group.In the teaching process of the experimental group,the author applies the Station Rotation blended learning model in college English teaching.Followed by the requests of Station Rotation blended learning model,the author divides teaching contents into four parts,including teacher-led instruction station,autonomous learning station,collaborative learning station and technique station.The first three parts are completed in class,the duration is strictly in accordance with the teaching schedule,and the fourth part is implemented online after the class.While the traditional English teaching with multimedia is applied in the control group.After one semester of controlled teaching experiment,the author compares the results of the pre-test and post-test and the improvement of scores,and analyzes the questionnaires and random interviews.The results indicate that there are differences between the experimental group with the Station Rotation blended learning model and the control group with the traditional English teaching with multimedia from teaching methods and teaching results.Major findings of the current study are as follows:(1)When teachers apply the Station Rotation blended learning model,they need to make adequate preparation before the class,formulate a reasonable teaching plan,pay more attention to the design of course arrangement,several stations and teaching content,and think about how to better mobilize students' enthusiasm and how to better play the role of “station”.(2)By comparing the scores of students' pre-test and post-test,the author finds that the students from the group of the Station Rotation blended learning model improves a lot.Compared with the reading part,the improvement in the translating and writing part is more obvious.(3)Through the analysis of the results of questionnaires and transcriptions of the interview,it's found that the Station Rotation blended learning model arouses thethe teaching process more flexible,the arrangement in class more compact,and the classroom atmosphere more active.Students' initiative and enthusiasm have been improved.Through the efficient interaction between the teacher and students,the teacher's online guidance makes students master the knowledge better and meets the students' needs with various learning situations as well as reduces students' learning anxiety.The research results show that Station Rotation blended learning model is an effective teaching method and has a positive effect on college English teaching.The significance of the current study is threefold.First,the application of Station Rotation blended learning model is to make further improvement in college English teaching and promote some innovations to traditional college English teaching.Second,the current study enriches some practical experience for educators and other individuals who are interested in the blended learning and Station Rotation blended learning model.Third,on the basis of current era of the Internet,the current study provides some insights for future college English teaching.
