| Translation plays an important role in the introduction of academic works.However,when domestic academic circles are introducing foreign academic works on a large scale,there appear some problems.Some crude and indiscriminate translations appear on the domestic market of academic translations,which has caused certain damage to China’s learning overseas research achievements.Therefore,it is necessary to study how to translate academic works properly.Under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory and Reiss’ text type model,this report explores how to deal with the inaccuracies in the translation process by taking the translation of Indian scholar Rita Kothari’s"The Fiction of Translation" and "Bengali into Gujarati:Unequal Transactions"as an example,hoping to provide some inspiration for those who engage in the translation of academic works.According to Vermeer’s skopos theory and Reiss’ text type model,the two papers in this translation task are informative texts.The main function of informative texts is to convey information.The readers of the target text are Chinese scholars and students who have some knowledge of translation studies.These people often have high requirements for translation quality.Thus,the purpose of this translation task is to accurately convey relevant information about Indian translation tradition,and provide a work of reference for researchers to study Indian translation tradition.For this purpose,this report focuses on the inaccuracies in the translation process.It divides the inaccuracies in the translation process into inaccuracies in the source text and those in the target text.The inaccuracies in the source text are subdivided into clerical or printing errors,factual errors,and plausible information.The inaccuracies in the target text are subdivided into "false friends",polysemes and terms in translation studies.For these different types of problems,this report proposes methods of direct correction,modification plus footnotes,and verification through different sources. |
