| As an important part of global economic and social development,women’s development attracts increasing attention throughout the international society.This English-Chinese translation project report is based on the translation of the excerpt from Pressing for Progress:Women’s Rights and Gender Equality in 2018(hereinafter referred to as Pressing for Progress).Published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission,Pressing for Progress states the progress made in the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women(CEDAW)in UK since the last review in 2013 and contains the recommendations put forward by the commission to the UK and Welsh governments based on the status quo.In this report,the author analyzes the major difficulties and corresponding causes at lexical level,syntactic level and discourse level.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,feasible translation strategies are illustrated with examples.In dealing with lexical difficulties,such as abbreviations,organization names and the parts of speech,the author refers to terminology bank and reliable online resource and applies three strategies:diction,amplification as well as conversion of word classes for the accuracy of the translation.As for difficulties at syntactic level,the author,in consideration of the differences between Chinese and English,relies on conversion of tense and voice,division and inversion so as to cater to Chinese expression habits.At discourse level,the author adopts some cohesion devices for the sake of cohesion and coherence of the discourse.Besides,the author shows the internal logical relation by adding necessary conjunctions based on the thorough analysis of the original text.In the conclusion,the author summarizes the findings and limitations of this project report and puts forward some recommendations to provide reference for the translation of similar texts in the future. |
