The title of this paper is "Women and Flowers: Self-staring and Body Metaphor in Contemporary Chinese Female Art".The object of my study here is contemporary Chinese womenart.Through the analysis of the flower expression under the self-gaze of female artists and the body symbols created by the combination of flowers and other objects,the author explores the uniqueness of their forms and methods of expression,thus highlighting the artistic concept conveyed by the body image of flower moulding and reflecting the artistsviews on themselves and women.Reflections on the survival situation,body,identity and gender of sexual groups.Female body,as the object of aesthetics,has always been an important content of expression in the art history dominated by patriarchal culture.Female images in paintings are full of male aesthetic norms for women.The author finds that the cultural soil of China makes it difficult for us to breed body art as radical as that of the West.Therefore,Chinese female artists often try to create a symbol from the image of flowers as a metaphor of the body.So,what are the commonalities of Chinese female artists in this respect? What are the differences between them and western female artists? It is the important content of this paper.In terms of research materials,eight representative contemporary female artists in China,Luan Weili,Zhu Bing,Yanping,Xia Junna,Leishuang,Chen Antelope,Cai Jin and Li Hong,were selected to conduct comparative and psychoanalysis of image texts from three dimensions: sex and beauty,spiritual space and physical strategy.In this paper,the author takes womenself-gaze and body metaphor as the breakthrough point,studies the works of Chinese women art with flowers as the theme since the1990 s,analyses the artistic features,image strategies and artistic concepts of these works,and then reflects the psychological changes of women in the current society from a certain perspective,presenting the changes of women social status and identity under the visual representation.Cultural perception brought about by change.Through research,we find that since the 1970 s,with the development of the Western feminist movement,under the background of the promotion of the status of female artists and the general awakening of female consciousness,the creation of female artists has gradually separated from the discourse of male gaze,and the way of female body presentation in artistic expression has also undergone subversive changes,from being seen to being gazed at.Become the subject of self-expression.In China’s cultural environment,the creation of female artists tends to be implicit.Chinese female artists like to use flowers to express the real experience of individuals in social life.They are more implicit and concealed in form and language and have local characteristics.They use the physical,psychological and cultural relevance of flowers and women,through individualized artistic expression,skillfully complete the transformation of flowers and women bodies,conveying women real physical experience and emotional experience.It also confronts the traditional male gaze in the way of female self-gaze,which produces a strong visual impact and discourse paradigm.
