As a special literary genre,children’s literature has special demands for its translators.Through the study and review of E-C translation practice of One Crazy Summer written by American writer Rita Williams-Garcia,the author of this report aims to explore the linguistic features of children’s literature and it’s translation methods and techniques,hoping to make a small contribution to the translation and study of children’s literature.This translation report is divided into five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction to the translation background,study significance,children’s literature,and its linguistic features.Chapter Two describes the translation process,including preparation before translation,translation process and post-translation review,in which pre-translation preparation includes reference to parallel texts and analysis of the source text.Chapter Three is a study of translation behavior.It introduces the reception theory and its application in the translation of One Crazy Summer.Chapter Four makes a detailed analysis of translation cases in the three dimensions of words with special functions,rhetoric,and particular types of discourse.By analyzing the linguistic features of the original text,the author of the report translates the key and difficult words in the aspect of vulgar words,homophonic words,and proper nouns,translating them into the language that conforms to children’s psychological and cognitive ability by grasping children’s reading characteristics and cultural differences between two countries.In terms of rhetoric,the author of the report summarizes the main rhetorical devices,namely,simile,metaphor,hyperbole and personification,analyses the effect of rhetoric in the original text,and chooses the corresponding language to attain the expected functional equivalence.In the part of particular types of discourse analysis,the psychological descriptions and the portraits descriptions of characters are mainly construed.The author of the report adopts free translation and method of addition to perfect the blanks and indeterminate factors according to the context and divides the long and complicated sentences for the better understanding of the children readers.Chapter Five is the conclusion of the report.Through the study of the translation project,the author summarizes the translation methods and techniques that are propitious to the translation of the children’s literature,which also makes the author better understand the linguistic features and language styles of children’s literary works.Moreover,it also serves as an instance of study and analysis of the translation of children’s literature from the perspective of the reception theory.
