| This is an E-C translation report on an excerpt from Appeasement: Chamberlain,Hitler,Churchill, and the Road to War(also known as Appeasing Hitler: Chamberlain,Churchill and the Road to War),which is written by Tim Bouverie. It is a striking new narrative history of the disastrous years of Nazi rule in Europe. This novel was published in April 2019,and there is no Chinese version so far.The source text is an informative text for learning knowledge related to appeasement policy characterized by a lot of information and strong practicability.During the translation process, there are many difficulties that need the translator to use various translation methods to solve.Translating difficulties mainly include two parts: a large number of unfamiliar names and abstracts words make translation difficult for the readers to understand;the structure of source language is complicated, especially the attributive clause and adverbial clause. The original is an information text, and Newmark has made an analysis and research on this kind of text.Newmark proposes that communicative translation can be used in the translation of the informative text.Based on the Newmark‘s theory, this thesis makes a concrete analysis of translation examples from the lexical and syntactical levels and summarizes some translation methods suitable for information texts, including annotation, literal translation, using of Chinese four-character structure, addition, omission, linear translation, inverse translation, preposition, and postposition. The translator gains a lot from the translation process. She believes that the translation and report can provide some inspiration in similar translation studies. And the content of the book is particularly useful to those who want to learn the policy of appeasement in the target language. Therefore, choosing this topic is beneficial to further broaden the research ideas and directions and study the translation of documentary literature. |
