Abstract/Summary:
This action research project examined the views, barriers, and strategies to success for Latinos. The population of the study consisted of 41 Latinos from selected industries, churches, and colleges in rural Southwestern Minnesota. Survey research was used to analyze the perceptions and experiences helping and/or hindering Latinos from succeeding. The findings of the study revealed that the majority of Latinos residing in rural Southwestern Minnesota consider themselves to be successful and are happy living in the area. Furthermore, the Latino participants rated their experiences within the community to be average and reported the services offered to them as also being average. Moreover, an immigration reform and more opportunities to become educated were acknowledged as solutions or strategies to succeed. Results of this study provide information for teachers, administration, service workers, and all other individuals interested in helping Latinos succeed.
