Abstract/Summary:
Injection molding is restricted from the control of melt pressure and flow rates in the feed system and mold cavity. Since melt flow rates to the cavity is an important factor determining the quality of an injection molded part, quality could be said unobservable during the molding cycle. A flow simulation package is hence developed and validated for plastics injection molding capable of providing estimates and control of unobservable process parameters like flow rate, part weights, in mold stresses, short shots, flash etc. The developed package can provide estimates based on the pressure data obtained from the molding process and the geometry of the feed system. Three different rheological models are considered in the research and tested for its consistency, reliability and accuracy. This thesis explains the details of development of control system and numerical simulation for a hot runner injection mold.
