| Purpose:By probing into the impact of the parents’ knowledge and beliefs on their children’s behaviors leading to refractive errors,this study aims to analyze the differences of the knowledge of visual health,beliefs and behaviors of the parents of preschool children in Yanbian with refractive errors.The results of this study will hopefully provide scientific basis for reducing the prevalence of preschool children with refractive errors and further improve the visual health of children in Yanbian.Methodology:By usin Convenience sampling method,this study takes the parents of preschool children aged 3 to 6 in Yanbian diagnosed with refractive errors as the research object.their beliefs in visual health and their behaviors related to their children’s refractive errors.The data was analyzed by using SPSS21.0.Results:(1)Socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects:The survey included a total of 315 parents of preschool children diagnosed with refractive errors.Of the 230 mothers(73%),72 fathers(22.9%).and 9 grandparents(2.9%);297(94.3%)urban residents.177(56.2%)problems.As to the time spent on electronic devices daily,Up to than 6 hours by 74(23.5%),and 37(11.7%)were over 8 hours.(2)The total score of the parents’ knowledge of visual health reached 0.83(SD=±0.17),categorized as medium level.Univariate analysis showed that statistically significant influencing factors on the parents’ knowledge of visual health included ethnicity,education,living area,occupation,and income(P<0.05).(3)The average score of the parents’ attitude toward visual health amounted to 4.75(SD=±0.31).Univariate analysis showed that living area,occupation,and whether the parents have vision problems showed as the influencing factors on the parents’beliefs in visual health,which were statistically significant(P<0.05).(4)The average score of the parents’ behaviors responsible for their children’s refractive errors reached 3.68(SD=±0.46).Univariate analysis showed that education background and monthly family income revealed as the influencing factors on visual health behaviors,which were statistically significant(P<0.05).(5)Statistically significant positive correlations(r=0.19-0.26,P<0.05)were found between the parents’ knowledge of visual health,their beliefs in visual health,and their behaviors responsible for their children’s refractive errors.Conclusion:(1)The parents of preschool children with refractive errors in Yanbian area had a moderate level of vision care knowledge,a high level of vision care attitude,poor vision care behavior,and poor compliance.(2)There are significant differences in vision health care knowledge among ethnic,educational level,living area,occupation and income of parents of preschool children with refractive errors in Yanbian area;there are significant differences in vision health care depending on the living area,occupation and whether parents have vision problems Differences in educational background and total monthly family income differ in vision care behavior.(3)There is a significant correlation between vision care knowledge,attitudes and children’s vision care behaviors of parents of preschool children with refractive errors in Yanbian area. |
