Objective: Ulcerative colitis(UC)is a common disease of the digestive system, which is difficult to treat. This article collects the English clinical literature on the treatment of UC caused by dampness amassment resulting from spleen deficiency with Chinese medicines published in CNKI,CQVIP,Wanfang,Cino Med and Pubmed from which the statistical analysis of the Chinese medicine data involved in the literature conducted, thus to explore the rules of medication. Methods:The clinical research literature on the treatment of UC caused by spleen-deficiency dampness through taking Chinese herbs orally published in self-built English databases was searched including CNKI,CQVIP,Wanfang,Cino Med and Pubmed until December 2020.According to the proposed inclusion and exclusion criteria,we chose the included literature by manual retrieval.A Chinese herb database was established, and Excel software was applied to enter the frequency, types, favors and natures of Chinese medicines, and SPSS 25.0 and SPSS Modeler 18.0 were adopted to perform cluster analysis and association rule analysis. Results: A total of 162 literatures were included in the study of medication application rules,170 prescriptions and 168 Chinese herbs were obtained.(1)Among all kinds of Chinese medicines, the first ten used most frequently are Atractylodes Macrocephala(Baizhu),Licorice(Gancao),Poria(Fuling),Codonopsis pilosula(Dangshen),coix seed(Yiyiren),Chinese yam, white paeony root(Baishao),Chinese goldthread(Huanglian),aucklandia root(Muxiang),and tangerine peel(Chenpi).(2)Among all kinds of Chinese medicines, the most frequently used are tonifying medicinal, and other medicines used over 10% include water-disinhibiting and damp-percolating medicinal, and qi-regulating medicinal,heat-clearing medicinal, astringent medicinal, hemostatic medicinal, and damp-resolving medicinal.(3)In terms of flavor, nature and channel tropism of the herbs,warm-natured medicines are used most frequently, and the medicines used more than 30% also include neutral-natured medicines.Concerning the flavors of the medicines,sweet-flavored medicines are used most, and others used more than 30% are bitter-flavored medicines. In terms of their channel tropism, the top three are medicines act on the spleen channel, lung channel and stomach channel.(4)Cluster analysis: The 25 Chinese medicines used more than 20 times can be grouped into 5 categories: the first category: Atractylodes Macrocephala(Baizhu),Licorice(Gancao),Poria(Fuling),Codonopsis pilosula(Dangshen),coix seed(Yiyiren),Chinese yam, amomum fruit(Sharen),hyacinth bean, ginseng,Platycodon grandiflorum(Jiegeng),lotus seed and white paeony root(Baishao). The second category:Chinese goldthread(Huanglian),aucklandia root(Muxiang),Chinese angelica root(Danggui),dried ginger,Scutellaria baicalensis(Huangqin)and pinellia tuber(Banxia). The third category: tangerine peel(Chenpi),Mangnolia officinalis(Houpo). The fourth category: astragalus root(Huangqi),and panax pseudo-ginseng(Sanqi).The fifth category: dark plum, myristica fragrans(Roudoukou)and fructus psoraleae(Buguzhi).(5)Association rule results: 168 Chinese medicines were analyzed for association rules, setting support ≥30%,confidence coefficient≥85%,and23 rules were generated. The top combinations of two medicines, three medicines, and four medicines are as follows respectively: Poria(Fuling)& Atractylodes Macrocephala(Baizhu),Poria(Fuling)& Licorice(Gancao)& Atractylodes Macrocephala(Baizhu),and coix seed(Yiyiren)& Poria(Fuling)& Atractylodes Macrocephala(Baizhu)& Licorice(Gancao).Conclusion:(1)The common medicines that can treat UC with spleen-deficiency dampness are Atractylodes Macrocephala(Baizhu),Licorice(Gancao),Poria(Fuling),Codonopsis pilosula(Dangshen),coix seed(Yiyiren),Chinese yam, white paeony root(Baishao),aucklandia root(Muxiang),and tangerine peel(Chenpi).(2)In the efficacy analysis, tonifying medicinal,water-disinhibiting and damp-percolating medicinal, and qi-regulating medicinal are used most, indicating that the pathogenesis of UC caused by spleen-deficiency dampness is mainly characterized by dampness amassment resulting from spleen deficiency and accumulation of qi and stagnation of water.(3)Warm-natured and neutral-natured medicines are most involved in the treatment of spleen-deficiency dampness UC.It can be seen that the medicines for warming and tonifying the spleen and stomach should be used in treating the disease. The five flavors are mostly sweet, bitter, and pungent, and the medicines mostly act on the spleen channel, lung channel, and stomach channel.(4)According to cluster analysis and association rules,wr can find that some prescriptions can be used to treat spleen-deficiency dampness UC,such as Shenling-baizhu Powder,Peptic Powder and Decoction of Four Medicinals. In advanced stage of the disease,Sishen Pill can be taken to warm and tonify the spleen and stomach.(5)Relevant research results are reflected in the academic thinking of the tutor. In the treatment of UC,the tutor insists on the unique principle of strengthening the spleen and stomach, eliminating dampness without hurting yin, clearing heat without hurting the stomach, and tonifying spleen and kidney at the same time.
