As a universal language,the importance of English is self-evident.Senior high school English is the stage to lay the foundation for college English and even later learning,it also lays the groundwork for cultivating high-level English talents in the future.At the same time,under the policy of targeted poverty alleviation in education,the achievements of senior high school students in all subjects should be improved.For students with English learning difficulties,not only to improve their English scores,but also need to strengthen the analysis of the causes of their formation,and then lay a good foundation for their transformation.Based on Weiner’s attribution theory and Howard’s multiple intelligence theory,this paper uses questionnaire,interview and case study to study the following three questions: 1)What is the current situation of the students with English learning difficulties in senior high school? 2)What are the causes for students with English learning difficulties in senior high school? 3)What are the strategies to help the students overcome English learning difficulties? Through the data collection and analysis of the questionnaires and interviews,the current situation of the students with English learning difficulties in senior high school are that they have poor English foundation,lack of interest and motivation in learning English,have incorrect attitudes in learning English,have weak will to overcome difficulties and lack of good learning strategies.At the same time,they cannot get the attention of teachers and parents,so they are backward and have no urge to make progress.In addition to their own factors,school factors,family factors,social factors and subject factors will also affect these students to become students with English learning difficulties.The school factors include that the school pays too much attention to the enrollment rate,and neglects the students’ own development;the teachers use improper teaching methods and the relationship between teachers and students is bad,etc.Family factors include parents’ overindulgence or indifference,and family disharmony,and parents have too high demands on children,etc.The social factors are that the uneven distribution of educational resources leads to the weakness of teachers in the underdeveloped areas;the different teaching material systems lead to the improper cohesion of English in the junior and senior high schools,etc.The subject factors are that there is a logical gap between English and Chinese,and students have difficulties in understanding;English is difficult,etc.In view of the above factors,this thesis puts forward the strategies to transform the students with English learning difficulties: Teachers should stimulate students’ learning motivation,teach students learning strategies,strengthen students’ learning ability,cultivate students’ strong will,guide students to make correct attribution,properly adopt stratified teaching,pay attention to students’ emotions at the right time,evaluate students reasonably and diversely,convey positive emotions to students,improve their own quality,change teaching methods at the right time,and organically integrate the teaching materials.Parents should actively cooperate with teachers,pay more attention to children’s learning,and strengthen home-school cooperation.
