| With the improvement of people’s living standards, people pay more and more attention to health problems.Meanwhile, with some major epidemic diseases(COVID-19,H1N1 influenza, dengue fever and Ebola virus disease, etc.)spreading around the world,in order to find therapeutic methods, international medical communication and cooperation are becoming increasingly close.Consequently, the importance of medical translation is becoming more and more prominent. In this translation practice,a medical science book titled Diseases Spread by Insects or Ticks is selected by the translator as the translation material, which is published by Momentum Press in 2018.In terms of the text type, the translation material is considered to be informative texts and contains many medical terminologies.Based on Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the author discusses the translation methods of medical science texts and summarizes the translation experience through translation practice. This translation practice report contains four chapters.Chapter One is the task description, which discusses the background and the linguistic features of the source text and the significance of the task.Chapter Two presents the translation process, including the preparatory work before translation, the planning and quality control measures of the translation task.Chapter Three analyses specific translation cases from three levels:lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level. At lexical level, translation cases of terminologies,semi-professional terms and proper nouns are analyzed;at syntactic level, translation cases of passive sentences and long sentences are analyzed, and at discourse level, analyses are made from the perspective of coherence and cohesion of the text.Chapter Four is the summary, which concludes the author’s reflection on this translation task and the limitations of this report. Finally, the author comes to the conclusion that in translating medical science texts,an overall study should be made to help translators better understand the linguistic features and translation difficulties before translation;priority should be given to meaning if the target text fails to achieve complete equivalence to the original text during translation;and proofreading after translation can effectively improve the translation quality and personal translation ability. |
