Research Into Translation Strategies Of Science And Technology Texts From The Perspective Of Newmark Translation Theory

With the acceleration of the “Chinese culture going out” and the “Belt and Road”construction,China’s cooperation with other countries in the world has also been deepened.China’s influence has become much more prominent in the infrastructure construction of various countries,and meanwhile the exchanges with other countries in the construction industry are becoming increasingly frequent.However,China’s “going out” culture is mainly concentrated on the fields of film and television,traditional literature,while cultural output in the science and technology field,especially in the construction field is relatively weak,the output of architectural culture is therefore more crucial.Architectural textbooks belong to science and technology texts.The science and technology texts,focusing on objectivity,are rigorous in terms of words,standardized in writing,accurate in language,clear in semantics,and strict in logic.Because of this,how to translate science and technology texts with high quality has become an important research topic in the field of translation in China.Newmark Translation Theory includes semantic translation and communicative translation.Semantic translation focuses on conveying the culture of the source language,and attaches importance to the accurate reproduction of the original expression,while communicative translation pays attention to the expression effect of the translation,and lays emphasis on the feelings of target readers.Because science and technology texts are objective and rigorous,it is highly feasible and scientific to use semantic and communicative translation strategies in the translation process.In view of this,based on the concepts of semantic translation and communicative translation as well as the textual characteristics of the original text,this article takes some sections of Building Construction Technology as examples,makes an in-depth study of English translation strategies,with the purpose of providing some inspiration for the translation of science and technology texts.This thesis first gives a comprehensive explanation of the development background and theoretical connotation of Newmark Translation Theory,and then makes a detailed analysis of the characteristics of science and technology texts and Building Construction Technology.Then,at the three levels of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,a variety of translation strategies,such as omission,amplification,splitting,conversion,restructuring and sequential translationare explored so as to prove the applicability and scientificity of semantic translation and communicative translation by case analysis.
