Along with the rapid development of economy,China has been boosting its research, and great achievements have been made among various fields. In the meantime, technical exchange between China and the world has become much more frequent and foreign researchers need to know the progress of China’s research, during which English is an indispensable tool.Since English is the working language of international journals,Chinese researchers have to use English to share their findings with international scholars.Guided by Newmark’s translation theory, this report applies communicative translation into the translation of a scientific paper.Directed by Newmark’s communicative translation theory that the translator could alter the form of the original text on the premise of reserving the truth, this report solves the problem of "converting dynamic language to static language" by using conversion.Inspired by Newmark’s translation theory that the translator could recast grammar to meet the end of producing authentic translation, this report uses omission to tackle repetition and the redundancy of category nouns in the text.Enlightened by Newmark’s translation theory that the function of translation should be in line with that of the original text, this report uses voice transformation or inversion to deal with sentences with passive voice and complex structures. This translation practice tests the performance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory in guiding the translation of scientific academic paper, and may offer some help to other translators in their translating academic papers on internal combustion engine.
