| The COVID-19 epidemic beginning in early 2020 is leading to a worldwide economic recession and bringing unprecedented impacts to the world economy. As a result, people in various industries are paying more and more attention to the world economic situation. So the translation of economic texts is of greater significance and urgency than before. The World Economic Outlook,as an authoritative global economic survey published by the International Monetary Fund(IMF),mainly focuses on economic policies and analyses of economic development and prospects for major country groups and for many individual countries. So the writer chooses parts of the new issue of the World Economic Outlook released on April 14,2020 as translation materials with the intention to promote the dissemination of economic information and provide more information for those who are interested in the economy but are not familiar with English. In this practice report, the writer adopts skopos theory proposed by Hans Vermeer as the guiding theory to solve problems arising in the process of translation.By applying skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the writer analyzes difficulties and proposes solutions to the translation of economic texts. For proper nouns and other words, the writer adopts literal translation, amplification and conversion. For sentences with a dash, the writer converts the dash into other punctuation marks such as parentheses or a comma according to the function of the dash in the source text. For sentences with passive voice, the writer translates English passive sentences into Chinese active sentences or Chinese invisible passive sentences. And for long sentences, the writer mainly adopts three translation skills including linear translation, division, and changing the word order. It is expected that these solutions can provide some references for translators in the economic fields. |
