A Report On The Translation Of Petroleum Texts From The "Three-dimension" Perspective Of Eco-translatology

The source text for this translation practice is excerpted from The 60 th Anniversary of OPEC published on the official website of OPEC.In 1960,the Iraqi government held a meeting in Baghdad,which led to the creation of the organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries(OPEC)by five founding members.At present,OPEC controls about 78% of the world’s oil reserves,and its international oil market share is close to 50%.The translation of petroleum science and technology texts is of great significance to the study of world economy,energy structure and international politics.Science and technology translation strives for accuracy and logical expression,while eco-translatology emphasizes that translators achieve dynamic balance between texts by adapting to the environment and choosing strategies.Therefore,the application of this theory to the translation of Petroleum Science and technology texts helps promote information communication between different language ecosystems,and has an innovative attempt on cross-cultural exchanges in the petroleum industry.Based on the analysis of the source text,this report applies the three-dimensional perspective of eco-translatology to guide the translation practice of Petroleum Science and technology texts.Problems and their solutions are summarized on the lexical,syntactic and discourse levels through case studies in the petroleum science and technology texts to the report.The major findings are as follows: under the "three-dimensional" framework,sci-tec text translation should follow the principles of accuracy,coherence and adaptability,so as to accurately convey the source information and reproduce the style.Specifically,at the lexical level,technics such as literal translation,zero translation and addition translation can be used to deal with scitech terms,the conversion of nouns to verbs,category words and abbreviations.At the syntactic level,technics such as logical restructuring,component analysis and sentence pattern deconstruction can be used to deal with the syntactic difficulties such as parenthesis,subjunctive mood and attributive clause.At the discourse level,author summarizes the logical step analysis of text cohesion,so as to construct the structural context and stylistic style control of the Chinese outputs.At the level of cultural exchanges,due to the differences in ecological background and idiomatic expression of the target language,translators need to flexibly use translation strategies,rhetorical devices and annotations to deal with the problems in the process of information communication.
