| This thesis is a report on the English-Chinese translation of the book AI Injected e-Learning: The Future of Online Education.It is a sci-tech text written by Maltese writer Matthew Montebello,which introduces online learning technology.This report selects Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 of this book as translation and analysis materials.Based on the theories and technologies available,Chapter 6 puts forward the related model of customized e-learning,and Chapter 7 is the prediction of the future development of the proposed model.The source text belongs to the sci-tech text,with a formal style and accurate language.The structure of sentences is complex,and passive sentences and difficult sentences are widely used.There are also many technical terms in the source text.Therefore,when translating such text,the translator should pay attention to the transmission of information rather than the equivalence of forms.Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory emphasizes that in order to improve the accuracy of semantics,the forms of expression in both languages can be sacrificed in translation.Hence,this report takes Catford’s Translation Shifts Theory as the theoretical framework to analyze the shifts in the translation process from two aspects:level shifts and category shifts.The author found that in the process of translation,level shifts between the source text and the target text can be realized by adjusting the tenses and plural form,and structural shifts can be achieved by adjusting the sentence structures and division.The translation shifts in this E-C translation practice can be achieved through the application of various translation techniques,such as the conversion of voice,conversion of sentence patterns and parts of speech,rearrangement of word order,omission and amplification,etc.,and the target text more conforms to the Chinese expressive habits.The author hopes those translation techniques can provide some references for the translation of sci-tech text and other related materials. |
