This is a translation practice report about the short story Walking in the Fall.The protagonist in the story verifies and traces the experience of his tenth generation ancestor Wang Wenfu’s life,and retraces the Wanjiang Area to trace his origins from the perspective of contemporary people.The core spirit of patriotism,enterprising and dedication conveyed by this short story is conducive to guiding people to establish correct ideals and beliefs.In recent years,with the rapid development of cultural industry in Wanjiang City Belt,the foreign exchange activities of Wanjiang Area have become more and more frequent.However,there are not many translation materials for foreign publicity of Wanjiang Culture.Therefore,under the guidance of appropriate translation theory,it has a positive significance to translate literary works with the historical and cultural background of Wanjiang Area.This report takes Peter Newmark’s Semantic Translation Theory as the theoretical guidance in the English translation of the short story Walking in Fall with Anqing local characteristics.This practice report analyzes the application and effect of Semantic Translation Theory in this translation from two aspects of lexical and syntactic.It is expected that this translation practice can provide a reference for the translation of Wanjiang Culture texts and make a bit contribution to the international dissemination of Wanjiang Culture.This report is divided into five chapters.The first chapter introduces the task description which are the introduction of source text and background and significance of translation.The second chapter introduces the translation processes which including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter introduces the theoretical foundation of this report which are the brief introduction of semantic translation and The applicability of the semantic translation to Walking in the Fall.The fourth chapter is case analysis.The author of this report analyzes some specific examples in the translation of this short story,to expound on the guiding role of Newmark’s theory.The fifth chapter concludes the gains and deficiencies in the translation.
