An E-C Translation Report On Fossil Fuel Hydrogen:Technical,Economic And Environmental Potential(Excerpts)

This translation practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation done by the translator.The original text of the English-Chinese translation is from chapters 8to 12 of the book of Fossil Fuel Hydrogen: Technical,Economic and Environmental Potential,co-authored by William J.Nuttall and Adetokunboh T.Bakenne.The main content of the original text is to use hydrogen to replace traditional fossil fuels for the development of new energy,which is a typical technical text.The translator took the Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance in the whole translating process,and analyzed the translation difficulties of the whole translating process at lexical level,syntactic level and textual level respectively,and summarized the translation methods suitable for translating the source text by combining the features of the technical text.At lexical level,the translator tried to solve the translation problems by adopting non-translation with annotation,liberal translation and conversion of parts of speech;at syntactic level,the translator tried to deal with the translation problems by adopting dividing,amplification and change of voice;at textual level,the translator tried to solve the translation difficulties by adopting synthesis and restitution.At the same time,the translator tried to guide the whole translating process with the help of three principles(the principle of purpose,the principle of coherence and the principle of fidelity)to achieve the purpose of this translation as much as possible,to enhance the coherence of the target language,and to accurately convey scientific information to the readers.The translator applied specific translation methods to analyze different cases in the whole translating process,in order that the translations can adequately and objectively convey scientific information to the readers,and hopefully provide some reference for the translation of related technical texts.
