An English-chinese Translation Report Of Property＆Casualty Insurance Essentials（Chapters 4-6）

The report is based on the translation of Property ＆ Casualty Insurance Essentials commissioned by Re Source Pro（Jinan）.Up to now,there has been no Chinese translation of the source text.The source text is an insurance training and education manual,which belongs to the explanatory text.It is characterized by strong logic and conciseness.Based on such textual characteristics,the translator chose Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory to guide her translation practice.Under the guidance of this theory,in the process of translation,the translator tried her best to achieve lexical,syntactic and textual equivalence.The report consists of five parts.The first part provides a brief introduction to the task background,characteristics of the source text and the entruster’s requirements for the translation.The second part illustrates the translation process.Pre-translation plays an important role in smooth translation.During the process of translation,the translator overcame the difficulties by consulting the entruster,teachers,and references.Besides,proofreading and assessment is a very important step for a good translation.The third part explores the theoretical framework.This translation practice benefits a lot from Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory.The fourth part,through analyzing some translation cases from lexical,syntactic and textual levels,illustrates some corresponding strategies the translator applied in order to achieve equivalence between the source text and the target text.In the fifth part,the translator analyzes and points out the gains and shortcomings of this translation practice.
