China Profile Course is a cultural course in the field of international Chinese,and it is also a compulsory course for students who come to China for higher education as clearly stipulated by the Ministry of Education.However,due to the lack of cultural teaching syllabus,the boring teaching content,and the single teaching mode,the teaching effect is not satisfactory.As a new teaching mode,the multimodal teaching mode can solve the problems existing in the teaching of China’s profile courses to a certain extent and improve the teaching efficiency.This paper attempts to apply the multimodal teaching model to the teaching of Chinese profile courses.It takes "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in "Chinese Art" and "Traditional Festivals" in "Chinese Customs" as examples for teaching design.The aim is to create authentic cultural situations for students by using a variety of symbolic resources.This way also can stimulate students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning Chinese.Such a teaching model provide students with a more realistic and experiential understanding of Chinese culture,enhance cultural identity as well.It is also expected to provide International Chinese teachers with a reference for teaching.This paper consists of four parts.The first part is the introduction.This part introduces the reason for choosing the topic,the purpose and significance of the research,the research method,and compares the relevant literature.It provides an overview of the multimodal teaching model and theoretical support for this instructional design.Part II provides a detailed analysis of the feasibility of applying multimodal teaching models to the teaching design of Chinese Profile courses.After,the paper shows general analysis of design elements in terms of teaching targets,teaching objects,teaching materials,teaching priorities,teaching methods,etc.The above can be a preparation for specific instructional design.Part III focuses on "Intangible Cultural Heritage" and "Traditional Festivals" in the textbook "China Profile" edited by Ning Jiming,as the teaching contents.It demonstrates the specific instructional designs using a multimodal teaching model.The last part discusses this teaching design and make actionable recommendations for implementation.It is expected to provide a valuable reference for improving the teaching effectiveness of Chinese Overview Course.
