A Report On The Vietnamese-chinese Translation In The Linguistic

The linguistic masterpiece A Brief History of Vietnamese Vocabulary（L??c Kh?o L?ch S? T? V?ng Ti?ng Vi?t）written by Vietnamese scholar Vu Duc Nghieu,is a research monograph on the history of Vietnamese vocabulary.It is of great academic value to deeply study the origin,formation and evolution of Vietnamese vocabulary in different historical periods.The translation of this masterpiece is helpful to promote academic exchanges between China and Vietnam.This report is based on the author’s translation of the introduction and the first chapter of the first part of the book as analysis materials.This work is an academic work with rigorous and formal language,complex syntactic structure and strong logic.The source text is a typical informative text,which should be translated accurately and completely in a concise and clear way to effectively transfer linguistic knowledge to more readers.At the same time,the language style of the academic text should be maintained as far as possible.Based on the text features and guided by Reiss’ s text typology theory,this report makes a case study of proper nouns,linguistic terms,passive sentences,long difficult sentences and textual cohesion in the text from three levels of vocabulary,sentence and discourse,and then summarizes the corresponding translation techniques and processing methods,so as to provide some reference for the Chinese translation of Vietnamese academic masterpieces.Through translation practice and analysis,we believe that in the translation of proper nouns and linguistic terms,we should focus on the search for the translation name,adopt conventional methods,search for the translation method,borrow the authoritative translation name,definition comparison method,and when necessary,adopt transliteration method to ensure the standardization of the translation name.In the translation of long difficult sentences,the following translation methods can be flexibly used,such as the sequential translation method,the reordering translation method,the division translation method,the amplification translation method,and the reorganization method,so that the long difficult sentences conform to the expression habits of the target language.When translating passive sentences,we should respect the idiomatic usage of the target language and try to translate them into Chinese active sentences or Chinese recessive passive sentences.When dealing with the logical cohesion of discourse,the techniques of explicitation of reference and addition of connectives are used to make the translation coherent and close.
