As economic integration and globalization quicken,more and more imported drugs are pouring into the Chinese market.Pharmaceutical instructions are a crucial carrier reflecting drug characteristics,and the translation quality has a direct impact on the safety and effectiveness of drug uses.Therefore,the translation of pharmaceutical instructions becomes increasingly essential.Depression has dramatically increased over the years.It is becoming a chronic disease for people.There are many types of treatment for depression,which include various types of therapies,such as electric shock therapy and medication.The most common form of treatment is Cymbalta.Cymbalta is a medicine prescribed by doctors or therapists to reduce the symptoms of depression.Under the guidance of Functional Equivalence Theory(Eugene A.Nida)and according to the instruction of American best-selling psychotropic drug—Cymbalta,this report explores that Functional Equivalence Theory plays a vital role in translating pharmaceutical instructions.The source text belongs to an expository writing,which has strong knowledge-ability and practicability.The source text not only includes a great deal of specialized knowledge,but also has primary function and usage.During the process of translation,the most important is to let the target text have the same function as the source text.The translator also hopes that this report can provide a reference for the Chinese translation of pharmaceutical instructions.
