| A group of Chinese students enrolled in a Master of Business Administration(MBA)program of a foreign university prior to the outbreak of COVID-19.Due to pandemic concerns,the university arranged online classes of four subjects for these Chinese students by utilizing Tencent Meeting and Zoom platforms from January 13 th to February 13 th,2021.During this period,the author served as the class interpreter.This practice report was based on the analysis of the second session of “Managerial Accounting and Control”,one of the four subjects.The corpus mainly included financial statement analysis e.g.,vertical analysis,horizontal analysis,and ratio analysis.This report mainly focused on three aspects: Firstly,it reflected on the problems in this class interpreting task,including linguistic problems such as omission and redundancy,as well as non-linguistic ones such as body language,rate of delivery,and intonation.Secondly,it focused on typical problems during this online class interpretation and explored interpreting strategies and coping tactics that should be adopted.Thirdly,it discussed the issues and details that interpreters should pay attention to in the pre-interpretation,during-interpretation,and post-interpretation stages for online interpretation.This report concluded with three recommendations for remote video interpreters,including specific preparations,linguistic and non-linguistic aspects need to be monitored during the task,and self-reflection after the task,so as to guide the author’s interpreting practice in the future and provide a reference for other interpreters in their online class interpreting practice. |
