Under the background of promoting the modernization of vocational education,the high-quality development of vocational education is an important demand of today’s era.Vocational education and training plays an invaluable role in improving the quantity and quality of human capital.However,there are still some obstacles to the promotion of quality vocational training.For example,in secondary vocational education and training,traditional teaching methods have led to inefficient teaching and learning and poor student outcomes,while further research is being conducted into teaching formats and methods that allow students to better acquire knowledge and skills.In recent years,there has been an increasing scale of reform in the form of classroom teaching in secondary schools,and an increasing number of practices using a variety of teaching methods to improve the effectiveness of classroom teaching forms.The project teaching method is a student-oriented,teacher-oriented,project-based teaching method,which ultimately forms a complete "product".In order to optimise the teaching of clothing design and technology in secondary vocational education institutions,this study uses the design teaching method for classroom teaching according to the actual situation of the "Clothing Design Fundamentals" course,in order to change the status quo of the course,including the shortcomings of traditional classroom teaching and improve the quality and effectiveness of the course.Based on an analysis of theoretical and practical research on the application of the project method at home and abroad,the concept and theoretical foundations of the project method are proposed.With an eye on the current situation of the implementation of the high school fashion design and craft course,the current teaching situation is analysed in terms of the problems of the subject "Fashion Design Fundamentals",and the feasibility and necessity of introducing the project teaching method to this subject is discussed.On the basis of theoretical research on the design teaching method and research on the relevant contents of the subject of ’basic fashion design’,a set of design teaching process is proposed for the teaching of the subject of ’basic fashion design’ in secondary schools.The process consists of four key components: gathering information for project refinement,selecting and planning the project,implementing the project in a collaborative team,and presenting the evaluation and summary results.Secondly,according to the class arrangement of the course "Fundamentals of fashion design",the practical application of the project teaching method was carried out in the two projects of "fashion color design" and "fashion pattern design",it also integrates relevant practical teaching activities in secondary vocational schools specializing in design and clothing technology,and applies the project-based learning method to design teaching,providing guidance for the teaching of design and clothing technology.After completing the classroom practice,it analyzed the effects of the application in the classroom,conducted questionnaires and interviews with pupils in practical classes,and analyzed and summarized the problems in the application of the project teaching method: in the project refinement phase,formulating the plan,implementing the project and evaluating the summary,there are problems such as the students’ pre class preparation is not in place,the participation in the class is not enough,the autonomous learning ability is not enough,and the teachers’ comprehensive quality and classroom control ability are facing challenges,There are deficiencies in the design of teaching materials and teaching links.Finally,according to the existing problems,targeted proposals for improvement were made in the areas of students,teachers and teaching: First,improving students’ interest and ability to learn,cultivating their motivation to learn and improving their self-learning capacity;second,to improve teachers’ teaching ability,change their concept,pay attention to experience accumulation,increase teachers’ training and promote teachers’ cooperation and sharing;Third,prompting teaching in project-based teaching methods,and the selection and development of teaching materials which must be pay attention to,also the organic combination of various teaching methods and the improvement of teaching evaluation are important that we must be care about.Thirdly,to prompt the teaching of project-based teaching methods,paying attention to the selection and development of teaching materials,the organic combination of different teaching methods and the improvement of teaching evaluation.
