| Global warming caused by carbon dioxide emissions is one of the most severe challenges facing mankind. As a typical representative of emerging economies, the BRICS countries are facing the dual challenges of economy and environment. On the one hand, the rapid economic development of the BRICS countries has changed the world economic structure;on the other hand, the BRICS countries are the main carbon emission source causing the growth of global carbon emissions. The sharp contradiction between economic growth and the increase in energy carbon emissions has seriously hindered the sustainable development of the BRICS countries. Therefore, exploring the relationship between carbon emissions from energy consumption and economic growth in BRICS countries can not only provide guidance for the sustainable economic development of BRICS countries, but also have important practical significance for the realization of the global carbon emission reduction target and the improvement of the global greenhouse effect.Firstly, this study makes a detailed analysis of the current situation of economic development and energy consumption and carbon emissions of BRICS countries, which lays a foundation for the following research.Secondly, this study builds a comprehensive measurement model for the study of the relationship between energy consumption carbon emissions and economic growth. It comprehensively measures the relationship from three aspects, namely, the general relationship, the decoupling relationship and the dynamic relationship, and focuses on exploring the degree of interdependence and causality of energy consumption carbon emissions. Finally, this study based on economic growth in the brics way to build the index system of influencing factors, and then describes the economic growth situation of the bric countries, and by building extension STIRPAT model respectively from the angles of time series data and panel data to explore the influencing factors of the influence degree of the energy consumption carbon emissions for the bric countries. It is found that the carbon emissions of energy consumption and economic growth in BRICS countries show a significant positive correlation in the long run.The decoupling state of China and India is almost concentrated in the growth connection and weak decoupling, while the decoupling state of the other three countries is full of the whole plane Cartesian coordinate system. From the perspective of dynamic relationship, the economic growth of BRICS countries will lead to the growth of energy consumption and carbon emissions. In addition, there is a twoway Granger causality between the increase of energy consumption and economic growth and the growth of carbon emissions and economic growth in BRICS countries. At the level of BRICS countries as a whole, the reduction of carbon emissions is mainly due to energy intensity and labor productivity, while economic size and carbon emission intensity are the biggest contributing factors to the growth of carbon emissions. At the national level, the contribution factors of BRICS countries’ carbon emission growth focus on economic scale and urbanization level, while the contribution factors of carbon emission reduction are different. Finally, this study puts forward relevant policy suggestions from three aspects of economic development quality, energy structure and labor productivity,so as to provide guidance for the sustainable economic development of BRICS countries, and provide a scientific basis for the realization of global carbon emission reduction targets and the improvement of global greenhouse effect. |
