Objective: Due to the intense workload of nurse, the psychological stress they face is also greater than that of other professions.Especially during outbreaks of COVID-19 and the normal prevention and control period, the level of depressive symptoms among female nurses is not optimistic.Meanwhile, some studies have shown that the level of perceived stress, burnout and sleep disturbance among female nurses has a tendency to increase. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to cross-sectionally investigate the current situation of depressive symptoms, perceived stress, burnout and sleep disorders among nurses,to explore the mechanism of interaction between each factor and depressive symptoms, and to consider the construction of a chain mediation model to provide some theoretical basis for reducing the level of depressive symptoms among female nurses. Methods: The cross-sectional design used proportional sampling method to select female nurses from each department of two tertiary care hospitals in Liaoning Province in May 2022,and questionnaires containing socio-demographic characteristics, perceived stress scale, burnout scale, sleep disturbance scale, and depression scale were distributed to each respondent to assess the basic situation, and finally,1125 valid questionnaires were recovered. Two independent samples t-test and ANOVA were used to compare the group differences of depression on different demographic characteristics and job characteristics;Spearman correlation analysis was used to explore the correlates of depression level among female nurses;PROCESS macro and SEM for SPSS was applied to explore the mediating effects among variables and chain mediating models of burnout and sleep disturbance between perceived stress and depression and testing. Results: The average score of depressive symptoms of female nurses was 8.66 ±6.145.Long working hours and chronic diseases were the influential factors of depressive symptoms(P<0.05).There was a positive correlation between perceived stress, burnout and sleep disturbance and depressive symptoms(P<0.01).Burnout and sleep disturbance played a chain mediating role between perceived stress and depressive symptoms in female nurses, with a total effect value of 0.0398 and a Bootstrap 95% CI(0.0168,0.0626).Conclusion: Perceived stress, burnout, and sleep disturbances all positively predicted depression.Perceived stress affect the level of depression in female nurses through burnout and sleep disturbance, which constitute a chain mediator.Nursing managers should actively seek measures to improve the work environment and reduce the levels of stress feelings, burnout, and sleep disturbances among female nurses, thereby reducing the generation of depression among female nurses and promoting their physical and mental health.
