Objective: By observing the efficacy and safety of Dioscorea poultice in treating patients with functional diarrhea with spleen-qi deficiency,a convenient, effective and relatively safe treatment method was explored for treating functional diarrhea with spleen-qi deficiency and improving patients’ quality of life. Methods: In this study,70 cases of inpatients and outpatients of the department of gastroenterology,Nanping People’s Hospital,Fujian Province were included according to the criteriafrom March 2022 to December 2022,and randomly divided into 35 cases each in the experimental group and the control group. On the basis of life and dietary intervention, the experimental group was treated with an hospital preparation of Dioscorea poultice, and the control group was treated with Live Combined Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus Tablets combined with sodium Glutamine and Guaiazulene Sulfonate Sodium Granules, and both groups were treated for 4 weeks, and the patients were observed for changes in safety indexes, the TCM symptoms and quality of life scores before and after treatment, and statistical analysis was performed to evaluate their clinical effectiveness and safety.Results:1.Before treatment, there was no statistical significance(P>0.05)in the two groups in terms of gender, age, disease duration, and the points of each symptom, total points, and the points of each dimension of the SF-36 of the Chinese medicine quality of life scale, which were stable at baseline and comparable.2.Comparison of the TCM evidence points:the main symptom points, secondary symptom points and the total points of both groups were lower after treatment than before, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05),indicating that both groups could improve the clinical symptoms of patients. The difference in the total TCM symptoms points between the two groups after treatment was statistically significant(P<0.01).This indicates that the treatment group was significantly more effective than the control group in improving the TCM symptoms.Among them, the treatment group was better than the control group in treating the frequency of stool, stool properties, the onset or aggravation of slight greasy food, mental lethargy, weakness of limbs and dullness(P<0.05),while the efficacy of the two groups was comparable in abdominal distension after food(P>0.05)3.Comparison of efficacy of TCM symptoms: the total effective rate of the test group was91.4%,and the total effective rate of the control group was 71.4%,with statistically significant differences(P<0.01),indicating that the efficacy of the test group was significantly better than that of the control group.4.Comparison of disease efficacy: the total effective rate of the treatment group was 88.6%,and the total effective rate of the control group was 51.4%,with statistically significant differences(P<0.01),indicating that the treatment group was significantly more effective than the control group in improving the main symptoms and concomitant symptoms of patients.5.Comparison of SF-36 scale: the scores of all dimensions in the test group improved after treatment, and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05),indicating that the treatment group could improve the quality of life of patients in all dimensions;the differences of Bodily Pain(BP)before and after treatment in the control group were not statistically significant(P>0.05),and the differences of the remaining dimensions were statistically significant(P<0.05),indicating that the control group could improve the quality of life of patients in all dimensions except Bodily Pain(BP).Compared with the two groups, the differences in General Health(GH)and Vitality(VT)were statistically significant(P<0.01),while the differences in other dimensions were not statistically significant(P>0.05),indicating that the test group was significantly better than the control group in improving General Health(GH)and Vitality(VT),and the efficacy of the other dimensions was comparable between the two groups.6.Safety evaluation: No adverse events occurred during the treatment period in both groups, and there were no significant abnormalities in general condition, the three major routines, liver and kidney functions and electrocardiogram before and after treatment. Conclusion: For patients with functional diarrhea with spleen-qi deficiency,Dioscorea poultice can effectively improve their clinical symptoms, enhance the efficacy and further improve the quality of life of patients, and no adverse effects occurred during the treatment.
