A Study Of The Literature On Dermatological Remedies In Dunhuang Medicine And Clinical Applications

Objective: To analyse the dermatological literature on skin diseases in the Dunhuang relics,to analyse the characteristics of their use and treatment rules,and to enrich the theory of Chinese dermatology treatment and prescriptions,so that they can better serve clinical purposes.Methos:The original volumes of the Dunhuang relics were used as the basis for the study,and reference was made to the books such as "Ancient Medical Texts from China: A Study and Interpretation","Dunhuang Medical Texts: A Comparison","Dunhuang Medical Texts:An Interpretation","Dunhuang Complete Book of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and "Practical Dunhuang Medicine".The study also explores the use of dermatological prescriptions from the Dunhuang relics,and concludes with three examples of clinical applications of Dunhuang dermatological prescriptions by our supervisor,Professor Li Yingcun,for the treatment of skin diseases,as an example of the modern use of ancient prescriptions.The research methods involved in this book include literature collection and search,collation and induction,statistical analysis and empirical summary.Results: A total of 89 Dunhuang remedies for skin diseases were systematically selected,treating sores,canker sores,rashes,hairdressing and so on.There are both internal and external prescriptions,with the majority of external prescriptions being used.The dosage forms include: decoction,pill,powder,ash(burnt ash),paste,wine,drops,etc.The external treatment methods include:(1)external application;(2)ointment and moistening;(3)showering;(4)topical external washing;(5)topical application;(6)topical soaking;(7)topical fumigation;(8)oral gargling;(9)medicated eye dabbing;(10)medicated facial dressing;(11)medicated juice on the head.In addition to the frequent use of oils and fats as auxiliaries,a large number of antiphlogistic,deficiency and heat-clearing drugs are used,mainly for the spleen,stomach and lung meridians.Pungent and warm medicines are predominant.Angelica dahurica,Rhizoma Chuanxiong,Pepper,Radix et Rhizoma,Radix et Rhizoma and Cinnamon are commonly used in dunhuang remedies for skin diseases.Conclusion: The dermatological formulas in Dunhuang medicine are based on the main idea of supporting the body and relieving symptoms,and have a long history of treating a wide range of diseases with a variety of dosage forms and usage methods.The vast majority of them have not been recorded in ancient medical texts and books,and are worthy of further study.Enriching the content of the discipline of TCM dermatology.Professor Li Yingcun,our supervisor,has applied some of the prescriptions to clinical use with good results.
