History And Memory: An Oral History Study Of Documentary Makers In Gansu Province

Gansu documentaries have been created and developed for more than 60 years.It started in 1958 after the establishment of Lanzhou Film Studio.It has experienced the development stages of news film documentaries,television documentaries,and new media communication of television documentaries.While accumulating rich documentaries,it also left regional image archives for the development of Gansu’s culture,politics,and economy.However,there is neither a general history nor a special history in the literature collation and research of Gansu documentaries.Therefore,neither the industry nor the academic community has made a systematic study of Gansu documentaries,and only some of their works have received the attention of the society and the academic community.Oral history is usually regarded as the text of public memory or collective memory.Its content not only has memories corresponding to historical development,but also is accompanied by individual emotions and identification attitudes.If there are attitude factors in unilaterally suppressing emotion and identity,it is impossible to approach the other side of the whole historical process that oral historians want to reach.What is the relationship between historical research and memory research? How can oral history archives link individual memory with collective memory? According to the content of the creation and development of Gansu documentaries,these two issues derive the main line of this paper’s fusion logic: the theme summary from individual memory to collective memory and the research on the history and memory content of the creation and development of Gansu documentaries.This paper is divided into five parts.The first part expounds the research background,research significance,literature review,research methods and research ideas of this paper,and establishes the research direction of history and memory based on oral history archives and literature materials;The second part,based on the analysis of the production and generation of oral history files and individual memory,explores the generation and construction of Gansu documentary memory text and the recall framework of individual creative memory;In the third part,the oral history archives,as individual memory texts,are placed in the historical dimension again,providing evidence for the creation and development history of Gansu documentaries;The fourth part,under the guidance of the historical reconstruction of the Gansu documentary creation collective,has generated the collective memory of Gansu documentary creation;The fifth part is the conclusion analysis: the creation history and memory content of Gansu documentaries provide experience and ideas for the practice of regional cultural communication.The oral history,as a text of individual memory,can supplement the historical evidence for the collective historical reconstruction.The condensation of individual memory and the collective historical reconstruction are the basis for the oral history to shape the collective memory.The development history of human society is a history of memory.Only by investigating how individuals remember,can more social memories flow to us.Only by collecting individual memories,understanding the operation mechanism of individuals in groups and society,and describing and constructing their social framework can we better understand our social environment.Oral history research is an effective means to understand the development and change of social environment.It can look at the development of human society from the perspective of social history while paying attention to individual memory and emotional care.
