Report On Guide Interpreting At Zhang Xueliang’s Residence

The report is based on a guide interpreting at the Zhang Xueliang’s Residence aiming at seeking appropriate strategies for guide interpreting by means of analyzing the characteristics and difficulties of the interpreting service.In the interpreting task,the interpreter accompanied a Moroccan tourist to visit the Zhang Xueliang’s Residence and was responsible for interpreting the Chinese guide’s commentary into English.The interpreter has made preparation before the interpreting,including online research of relevant knowledge,glossary establishment and communication with clients and related parties.After the service,the interpreter reexamined the task and summarized on problems and possible improvements in aspects of memory,note-taking and language translation.This report concludes that,in order to solve the problem of memory loss and deviation,interpreters can enhance their memorizing ability by chunking the information,expanding capacity of information units and consciously recalling information timely;to solve the problem of disordered note-taking,interpreters can construct a note-taking model by mainly recording the core information,basic logic and irreplaceable information,and on this basis further construct a classified note-taking symbol system;to solve the problem of inaccurate translation of culture-loaded words,interpreters can improve the translation by further explaining the implied meaning of cultural words and deverbalization.This report makes a diversified study and reflection on the interpreting practice.Through the interpreting and the report writing,the author has a further understanding of the interpreting strategy and the responsibilities of interpreters,which brings the passion for interpreting and the confidence in continuing to undertake interpreting tasks.
