| The English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011 Edition)emphasizes that listening and speaking are two very important skills in English learning, and listening and speaking are inseparable, which is the key and difficulty of English learning for junior high school students. However,in the current teaching of English listening and speaking, although teachers ask students to read more, memorize more and speak more, there is a lack of theoretical guidance.Previously, many scholars applied the register theory to the teaching of English listening and speaking in universities, guiding students to use the predictive function of the register theory and the three elements of the register theory to analyze the discourse, which was welcomed by college students and even doctoral students, and improved the students’ listening and speaking level.Based on the three elements of the register theory, this study explores its impact on the students’ English listening and speaking level in junior high school, and the research questions are:(1)Based on the language theory, what problems do students have in English listening and speaking now?(2)What are the effects of the three English listening and speaking teaching designs based on the three elements of the register theory on the students’ English listening and speaking level?(3)English listening and speaking teaching design under field control,English listening and speaking teaching design under tenor control and English listening and speaking teaching design under mode control, which of the three English listening and speaking teaching designs can improve students’ English listening and speaking level the most obviously? This study uses interview methods and experimental methods. At the end of the first semester of the second year of junior high school, the author interviewed 36 students from six classes with three grade bands, and based on the results obtained in the interview, the author designed the listening and speaking teaching under the control of the three elements of the language range theory. In the second semester of the second year of junior high school,160 students from four classes were regarded as research subjects to carry out a 16-week teaching experiment.Three experimental classes and one control class were set up,and the experimental class adopted the listening and speaking teaching under the individual control of three elements, and compared the students’ listening and speaking grades before and after the experiment.Among them, the data analysis was carried out using SPSS18.0 for statistics, and the data was collected from the listening and speaking final tests of two semesters and the interview. The results of the study show that:(1)At present, students do not have the awareness of register theory,so they ignore a lot of useful information when they listen and speak English, and the listening and speaking level needs to be improved,so they miss lots of scores in some questions in the listening and speaking tests.(2)The three English listening and speaking teaching designs based on the three elements of register theory have a positive impact on students’ English listening and speaking skills.(3)The English listening and speaking teaching under field control and the English listening and speaking teaching under tenor control have significantly higher improvements in the students’ English listening and speaking level than the control class, and compared with the control class, the teaching of English listening and speaking under mode control can not significantly improve the students’ English listening and speaking level. That is,the English listening and speaking teaching design under field control and the English listening and speaking teaching design under tenor control can improve the students’ English listening and speaking level. And the English listening and speaking teaching design under field control can improve the students’ listening and speaking level the most obviously.According to the research results, the author put forward relevant suggestions for the teaching and learning of English listening and speaking in junior high school. The results of this study have a certain guiding effect on the teaching of English listening and speaking in junior high school, but there are still some shortcomings that need to be further studied in the future. |
