A Report On The Translation Of Adb’s Project Administration Instructions (Excerpts From 5.01-5.07)

Asian Development Bank(ADB),as an important international financial organization,assists its members and partners by providing loans,technical assistance,grants,and equity investments to promote global development.Since ADB’s working language is English,it is important to accurately translate its documents into Chinese so as to allow China’s project offices which want to apply ADB’s loans to understand its policies and documents.The author is entrusted to translate Section 5.01-5.07 of ADB’s Project Administration Instructions which mainly introduces ADB’s requirements for the borrower and the Executive Agency and its procedures to deal with changes to projects.Guided by Reiss’ s text typology,the author analyses the text feature of the original text and finishes this translation practice.This translation report is divided into four parts.Namely Introduction,Process Description,Case Analysis and Conclusion.At the stage of process description,the author introduces the work at pre-translation,while translation and post-translation.When translating,the author finds several difficulties such as how to accurately translate acronyms and professional terms,how to deal with complicate and long sentences and how to enhance text coherence.Under the guidance of text typology,the author adopts suitable translation methods which are stated in detail in case analysis.And based on these analysis,this paper holds that the translation of informative text should be content-focus and emphasize accuracy and logic.As to translation of abbreviations and professional words,it should be produced by consulting relevant documents and looking up professional dictionaries.For the sentence translation,restructuring,addiction and conversion of voice and subject can be adopted.And at discourse level,it is feasible to add logical words and specify demonstrative words so as to get a more coherent passage.
