| The view of English learning activities is proposed in the English Curriculum Criteria for Regular High School,which integrates six elements: thematic context,discourse type,language knowledge,cultural knowledge,language skills and learning strategies and points to the core competence of English discipline.It stresses that activities are the elementary form of English learning.Teaching guided by the view of English learning activities has changed the phenomenon of fragmented learning which focus on language knowledge and skills and it also provides a new direction for teaching.Now,the view of English learning activities has been involved in junior high school and reading teaching is an important part of English teaching.Teachers’ implementation of the theory in classroom practice can effectively enhance the effectiveness of teaching and the use of reading teaching methods can greatly facilitate the achievement of teaching goals.Therefore,it is necessary to carry out relevant research on English reading teaching strategies in junior high school from the perspective of English learning activities,which is of great importance to improving the quality of teaching and promoting the smooth progress of the new curriculum reform.This research mainly focus on three questions:(1)What is the current situation of English reading teaching in junior high school and how about the usage of reading teaching strategies based on the view of English learning activities?(2)What are the problems and reasons for junior high school English teachers’ use of reading teaching strategies based on the view of English learning activities?(3)What reading teaching strategies can junior high school English teachers implement in order to practice English learning activities? In order to answer these three research questions,18 English teachers and 100 students from a junior high school in Liaocheng were selected as the research subjects.Guided by the view of English learning activities,this paper analyzed the current situation of junior high school English reading teaching and the teaching strategies adopted by the teachers through questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview.This research reached the following findings: First of all,most of the junior high school teachers still pay more attention to students’ language knowledge rather than language application.And the phenomenon that teaching is divorced from the context,the setting of thinking path is divorced from the text core and students’ classroom feedback is ignored still exist.Besides,teachers’ strategy implementation levels were uneven.Secondly,the conjunction of reading teaching strategies to the theory needs to be improved.The main reason for this phenomenon is that teachers do not have a thorough understanding of the new concept,their teaching concepts are lagging behind and the coordination between teachers and students in actual teaching is not satisfactory.In addition,under the influence of exam-oriented education,most teachers stick to their usual teaching methods and tend to reject the new teaching concepts.Based on this,this research attempts to propose the reading teaching strategies based on the view of English learning activities,so as to help teachers change teaching concepts,optimize teaching strategies and transform the traditional reading teaching methods to meet the needs of the reform of junior school English curriculum. |
